Modules - Year 11. Advanced Professional Development
Supervised project
This module is designed to enable students to take responsibility for their learning and development needs to meet personal, professional and organisational goals and objectives. This will be achieved through analysing current skills and preparing and implementing personal development plans.
2. Managing Change in Organisation
Taught element
This module looks at the reasons for change and alternative models for its management. It focuses on the need to implement processes and systems for ongoing, continuous structural and cultural change in organisations, through methods such as organisational development, business process re-engineering and the learning organisation model.
3. Management Research/ Management Research Methods
Taught element and supervised project
This module recognises the importance for managers to have project management skills and expertise. It requires students to plan the implementation of a new product, service or process. Students need to take a full and active role in all aspects of the development of the project and the selection of an appropriate management issue is crucial to success. Students cover a full range of management activities and roles including resource and people management and implementation of change.
This module is designed to introduce students to the techniques and methods required when carrying out formal research. It addresses a variety of research methodologies and offers the opportunity to carry out interventionist or action research. Students are required to produce a project proposal based on independent research into an area of professional business practice that interests them and will add to their professional development. Where appropriate, students can link the outcomes of this unit with those from units that deal with project implementation.
4. Strategic Planning and Implementation
Taught element
This module focuses on the importance of effective forecasting and planning in the current global economy. Contemporary organisations need to be proactive, with their direction determined by logical analysis. It is not always possible to calculate accurately future events; however, without any sense of progression, it is easy to lose competitiveness, market position and customer loyalty.
5. Managing Financial Principles and Techniques
Taught element
This module provides students with a foundation in financial principles and techniques relevant to the strategic management process. The focus is on the management of costs using forecasting, appraisal and financial reporting procedures. The main objective is to provide students with the tools and confidence to apply, analyse, and evaluate financial information. This will enhance their decision-making skills through the use and validation of forecasting techniques, and the consideration of financial statements.
6. Human Resources Planning and Development
Taught element
This module focuses on knowledge, understanding and skills necessary for the planning and development of an organisation’s human resources (HR). Students will research the role of the HR function, analyse HR planning and development methods and how they contribute to organisational objectives and requirements, and analyse performance enhancements.
7. Strategic Marketing Management
Taught element
This moduole provides students with an introduction to the principles of strategic marketing. It develops knowledge and understanding of the formulation of a marketing plan, allows them to investigate the current marketing environment and helps them to consider how all managers in an organisation can contribute towards the achievement of marketing objectives. Students will learn about the theoretical concepts associated with a marketing strategy and the marketing planning process and its application to different market situations. |
